The dependencies that compromise you

The tools you depend on are points of leverage against you.

Every dependency in your reporting workflow is somebody else's call to make. Independence is the sum of the calls you keep for yourself.

Storage answers to subpoenas

Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud. A subpoena to the provider yields your reporting in full. You aren't notified, you don't get to object, and the provider has no incentive to fight on your behalf.

Platforms answer to policy

Workspace accounts are suspendable. Drives are revokable. Terms of service change. Your archive is held at the pleasure of whichever vendor you signed up with.

Your contacts are someone else's metadata

Who reached you, when, and how often is captured by your phone provider, your messaging app, your email host. The shape of your sources is visible without the content ever being read.

A reporting workflow that answers to you. Drafts, transcripts, source documents, research files, contact graph. All on hardware in your possession. End-to-end encrypted. Reachable from anywhere over an encrypted tunnel. Nothing on a third-party server for a court order to reach.

What that means in practice

Reporting on hardware in your possession

Drafts, transcripts, source documents, research files. AES-256 at rest. Available to you over an encrypted tunnel. Not held by any cloud provider.

Source comms that don't transit a logged platform

End-to-end encrypted messaging and file transfer routed through your Ark. Contact graph stays on your device. Nothing for a third party to log.

Anonymous source intake

Sources connect to your Ark without providing an email, phone, or any identifying information. The Ark requires no identity to use, from either side of the conversation.

Work from anywhere without your archive

Keep your Ark in a secure location. Connect from your laptop over an encrypted tunnel. No sensitive files on the device you carry through airports and border crossings.

Collaborative investigations, revokable

End-to-end encrypted sharing between Arks lets a small team work on the same archive without putting anything on a third-party server. Access is revokable per collaborator.

No telemetry, no phone-home

The Ark does not communicate with ArkCentral. We sell you a device and step out of the picture. Updates ship through the device's own mechanism and carry no telemetry.

Everything you need to know.

I already use Signal and a hardware encrypted drive. What does this add?
It collapses both into a single device with one set of recovery procedures, plus it covers the gaps: shared access for editors or co-reporters, an encrypted tunnel for off-site access, contact-graph privacy, and the ability to work without an account tied to your name.
What if I'm subpoenaed for what's on the device?
Your obligations under a subpoena are your own to navigate with counsel. What we can tell you: we don't hold your data, we don't hold your keys, and we have nothing to hand over if we are subpoenaed.
What about border crossings or seizure risk?
A powered-off Ark is encrypted at rest with biometric access. Standard practice is to power it down before higher-risk situations. The companion app can remotely lock or wipe the device if needed.
Does this work for collaborative investigations across reporters?
Yes. End-to-end encrypted sharing between Arks lets a small team work on the same archive without putting anything on a third-party server. Access is revokable per collaborator.
Is the Ark phoning home with telemetry?
No. The device does not communicate with ArkCentral. We sell you a device and step out of the picture. Updates, if any, ship through the device's own mechanism and don't carry telemetry.
